Bronx NY Man Busted for Alleged Health Care Fraud, Medicaid Fraud
New York authorities recently arrested a Bronx NY man who allegedly committed health care fraud in a major Medicaid scam.
The 52-year-old suspect lives in the Bronx and is the CEO of Assistance by Improv (ABI), a phony business on Southern Boulevard that reportedly operated as a front for the suspect to defraud the government out of millions of dollars.
It is believed that the suspect stole at least $5 million from the government by committing massive Medicaid fraud over an eight-month period. According to authorities, the suspect pretended to seek housing opportunities for Bronx NY residents. However, said New York prosecutors, what the suspect was really doing was taking advantage of the individuals who sought out his help and “lining his pockets with millions of taxpayer dollars.”
The suspect reportedly instructed the housing applicants to provide him with their personal health information and data. Then, without their knowledge, the suspect allegedly filed false Medicaid coverage claims on their behalf and pocketed the money. Moreover, the suspect reportedly subjected the housing applicants to “a battery of unnecessary medical tests” so that he could file additional claims for health care coverage.
The suspect faces multiple criminal charges, including grand larceny, health care fraud, and insurance fraud. Additionally, the New York State Attorney General’s Office could potentially file more charges against the suspect, depending on what kind of evidence is uncovered as the investigation continues.
Medicaid fraud is a very serious crime that can incur severe penalties. In this case, the NY attorney general said that the suspect’s scheme “drained Medicaid of important resources that should have been used on medical patients in need.” The suspect can expect to spend a very long time in prison, noted the top lawyer in the State of New York, because his office “won’t stand for those who seek to use the [Medicaid] program as a personal piggy bank.”
