Teen Pleads Guilty to Murdering Nepalese Refugee in Rochester, New York
All three people accused of murdering a Nepalese refugee in Rochester NY have now pleaded guilty to criminal charges and will be spending several years behind bars.
The violent crime went down on July 19, 2015. Kamron Campbell, a 17-year-old teenager from Rochester, was the last suspect who had not yet pleaded guilty to the murder charges. Campbell was one of three suspects accused of fatally shooting Jit Mongar, a refugee from Nepal, outside a convenience store located on Lake Avenue in Rochester, New York.
The three suspects reportedly approached Mongar as he walked out of the Rochester NY convenience store and tried to rob him of his car. Something went horribly wrong during the attempted carjacking and the suspects used a sawed off shotgun shot the victim.
The other two suspects, Kahlil Nelson and Lesean Foucha, eventually reached plea agreements with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. One of the suspects was later sentenced to a term of incarceration of 15 years in state prison, while the other suspect is set to be sentenced this month.
Campbell, the third suspect in the homicide case, was the lone holdout until recently. Now he too has reached a plea deal with Monroe County prosecutors. Campbell, who is 17 years old, recently pleaded guilty to second degree murder charges, as well as charges of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. He will be sentenced accordingly when he appears in a Monroe County court on October 12.
Mongar, the Nepalese refugee who was brutally murdered, had been in the United States for two years and was the married father of seven children.
All three suspects in the murder case were teenagers at the time of the killing. In the immediate aftermath of the homicide, an Assistant DA with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office said that it is “not uncommon these days to see kids younger and younger out there committing these types of crimes.”
