Applegate Farms Recalls Chicken Nuggets in New York and Elsewhere due to Product Safety Concerns
Applegate Farms, a U.S. company that provides natural and organic meats to consumers, recently took the drastic step of issuing a product recall for thousands of packages of chicken nuggets distributed in New York and other states.
The recall affects 9,000 packages of one of the company’s most popular products: 8-ounce packs of Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets. The safety issue is that the packages may have small plastic pieces that could cause health problems for anyone consuming the chicken nuggets.
Consumers and grocery store operators should be on the lookout for Applegate chicken nugget products containing a label that reads “Best Before September 27, 2016.” Additionally, the USDA mark of inspection on each package will have the establishment number “P-2617.”
Anyone who has purchased one of the affected chicken nugget packages should return the product to the store from which they bought it. Anyone returning the product is entitled to a full refund on the purchase price.
At this time, Applegate Farms believes that none of the company’s other food items were affected by the product defect. However, the processed meat manufacturer is conducting a thorough investigation and making sure that no other products were potentially contaminated.
This is not the first time that Applegate Farms has needed to issue a major product recall. In 2014, the company recalled a different type of chicken nuggets because plastic had gotten into the food product during the mixing stage of production.
On the official Applegate Farms website, the company issued a statement indicating that the potentially dangerous products this time were distributed to food retailers located in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Indiana, Texas, Georgia and Florida. The website also notes that there have been no reported injuries or illnesses stemming from the defective packaging on the chicken nugget containers.
