Head-On Collision on Perinton NY Highway Results in Death of Motorist
One person died in a scary motor vehicle accident on a highway in Perinton, New York.
The fatal car crash occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Interstate-490 West, near New York State Route 31. According to authorities, a Rochester NY man was driving his car on the highway and approaching exit 26 when he noticed another car traveling in the wrong direction and headed straight for him. The Rochester driver was not able to maneuver his vehicle quickly enough to avoid the oncoming car: the result was a head-on collision.
Other motorists saw the violent collision and dialed 911 to alert local authorities. Members of the Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department, emergency crews with Perinton Volunteer Ambulance, and deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office soon arrived at the scene to offer assistance. Emergency medical responders conducted CPR on the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, but they were unable to save him; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorist, who lived in Canandaigua NY, was reportedly just 26 years of age when he died.
Meanwhile, the Rochester motorist sustained minor injuries in the crash and received medical treatment at the scene of the accident. The 31-year-old man was later taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Fairport Police Department are currently investigating the car accident and trying to determine exactly what happened and whether anyone was at fault.
Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, it is possible that the family members of the motorist who died may be able to file a wrongful death claim to recover damages. However, the fact that he was driving on the wrong side of the road could potentially make it difficult to argue that his death was caused by another negligent motorist.
