NYC Landlord Accused of Murdering Tenant
Officers with the New York Police Department (NYPD) recently arrested a Bronx NY landlord accused of murdering his tenant.
The violent incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. outside a home on Logan Avenue in the Bronx, New York. The suspect, a 51-year-old man who owned the house, allegedly got into a verbal altercation with the victim, a 44-year-old man who rented the property. According to law enforcement officials, the dispute was over money: apparently, the victim had failed to pay rent for at least nine months, prompting the suspect to attempt to forcibly evict him.
At some point, the verbal dispute reportedly turned physical. That’s when the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab the victim while they both stood in front of the home.
The victim’s 12-year-old son was reportedly at the residence at the time of the violent attack and witnessed the stabbing. Afterwards, he dialed 911 and alerted the police. NYPD cops and NYC emergency medical responders subsequently rushed to the scene, where they found the victim suffering from several deep stab wounds. Emergency crews transported the victim via ambulance to a local hospital, where doctors desperately tried to save his life. Tragically, it was too late for the victim: he was pronounced dead at the Bronx hospital.
After news of the homicide began to circulate, some of the victim’s neighbors expressed their shock at the violent killing. One person called the suspect a “gentle” person. Additionally, the victim’s brother spoke to the media and said that the victim moved to New York from India more than 10 years ago and had three young kids.
Murder Investigation by NYPD
NYPD detectives investigated the homicide and soon identified the suspect as the person allegedly responsible for the fatal stabbing. While searching the area outside the residence, police officers reportedly found the murder weapon.
The suspect later went to the 45th Precinct police station and turned himself in. He has been charged with multiple crimes, including murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of first degree murder, he could potentially face life imprisonment.
