Rochester NY Police Investigate Shooting on City Street
Police in Rochester New York are investigating a fatal shooting and searching for clues as to what happened.
The tragic incident occurred during the early morning hours on Tuesday. The victim, a 22-year-old man from Rochester, NY, was shot and killed in the area of a vacant house located near the intersection of Sherman Street and Elsdon Street.
The Rochester Police Department dispatched police officers to the area after receiving a call about gunshots being fired. A neighbor who lives on the block heard several gunshots and dialed 911. Police were also alerted to the shooting incident by a ShotSpotter alert.
When Rochester NY cops got to the scene, they found the victim lying on the pavement and suffering from gunshot wounds. He was soon declared dead at the scene by emergency medical responders.
Rochester police officers and detectives with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office are actively investigating the homicide. Shortly after the fatal shooting, investigators closed down part of Sherman Street so that they could search for evidence.
At this time, investigators have not yet identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting. Assuming that law enforcement is eventually able to identify and capture the person responsible for the homicide, that individual could potentially face criminal charges for first degree murder, as well as weapons offenses.
